HISTORY

There was never a life-long ambition or a dream to venture into music or achieve success in the world of music. It was just a pass time hobby of Varda brothers before they emerged as full-fledged professional musicians. They inherited music from their father and uncles and were brought up in a musical environment and so it just 'happened'. Prior to this, they had never realized that they were blessed with inborn God-gift or that they had that talent and potential in the field of musical art.

The brothers like their father used to invite friends and sing for fun and without reserve the family offered 'samosas and tea' to their guests every weekend indeed! Those were the days of pure love in every relationship. Thereafter, the group was utilized to sing for a cause by various fund-raising societies. 'Singing for a cause' was how this group was known as. Later on, their personal life was in turmoil and the family passed through a phase of difficult times and the subsistence was provided by grave hardship to the extent that their financial condition deteriorated heavily which made them the victim of great suffering. It was undesirable to beg for financial assistance. Business those days meant quite a lot of wealth and assets for investment of which they could not even dream of. This led them into music as it did not require any capital. They had a harmonium, and a pair of ‘Tabla’ (Traditional Indian Instrument) and started entertaining professionally, and as they say, the rest is history!

Today, it is an exhilarating feeling having tasted success in what perhaps God had ordained to form a house-band that started out by Tanzanians of Asian origin in 1980, the year when the band was officially registered as 'Varda Arts.'
